In Sunni references, there are some Hadiths, which mentioned that we are commanded to follow the Qur’ān alone without making any reference to the Ahl al-Bayt. The texts of many of such Hadiths read: “…that which if you adhere to it” and not “…that which if you adhere to both or them”. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that a Muslim as a matter of necessity must follow the Qur’ān. However, the Ahl al-Bayt, due to their kinship with the Messenger (PBUH) of God are to be followed as well for the interpretation of the Qur’an. In this write up, we want to examine the interpretation of the Hadith Thaqalayn.
